Keyon Reffell Returns To Give Merthyr Town Play-Off Hopes A Lift

Midfield playmaker Keyon Reffell returns to the Merthyr Town team for Saturday’s Southern League match at St Neots Town (3pm).

Former Cardiff City trainee Reffell, who joined the Martyrs from Kidderminster Harriers, is a key player for manager Gavin Williams.

Merthyr are fifth in the Premier Division, occupying the last play-off slot, with Banbury United only one point behind.

Banbury make the trip to play bottom club Cinderford Town in the Forest of Dean.

Curtis McDonald and Kayne McLaggon are both likely to miss the match at St Neots because of injury, while Ryan Prosser will hope to be fit enough to be among the substitutes.

Adam Davies, Jarrad Wright, Scott Hancock and Scott Barrow are likely to play in the back four with Oliver Davies the goalkeeper.

Josh Bull, signed from Cwmbran Celtic, is again likely to lead the Martyrs attack with Corey Jenkins and Ian Traylor in the wide areas.

Merthyr drew 2-2 against Kings Langley in their latest match. Traylor, making his 300th appearance for the club, had a penalty saved by the goalkeeper.

Only one automatic promotion place is available from the Premier Division with Chippenham Town top. The next four  clubs qualify for the play-offs.

Merthyr’s remaining four fixtures are against St Neots (away), St Ives (home), Redditch (away) plus Hayes and Yeading (home).

Former Liverpool, Manchester City, Newcastle United and Cardiff City forward Craig Bellamy will be guest at Merthyr Town Football Club on Friday, May 12 to chat about his achievements during his playing career that lasted nearly 20 years.

The former Wales International who was capped 78 times and scored 19 goals will also be joined by a comedian and guests will also enjoy a delicious two-course meal.
