Lauren Taking On New Heavyweight Challenge in Luxembourg

Lauren Williams is weighing up a new challenge at the Taekwondo Luxembourg Open on Saturday.

The Blackwood teenager – who is a reserve for this summer’s Olympics – will takes a step into the unknown.

European -67kg champ Williams will move up to the -73kg category as part of a three-strong British squad.

The 17-year-old said: “I’m excited to fight in a heavier weight category in Luxembourg.

“I’m looking forward to fighting bigger and stronger girls. It’s going to be tough.

“But I’m just going out there to play my game, apply my strengths and hopefully come back with some valuable ranking points ahead of the Grand Prix Final.”

Williams has already won the Greek Open this year and is understudy to world champ Bianca Walkden should the Liverpool-born fighter be injured before Rio.
