Llandudno Appoint Caernarfon Boss Iwan Williams As Manager

Llandudno have announced the appointment of Iwan Williams as their next manager following the departure of Alan Morgan last week.

A statement released by the club after their 2-1 defeat at Bala Town confirmed the appointment of Williams, who leaves his post as manager of Caernarfon Town.

Williams leaves the Cymru Alliance side top of the table and ended his tenure on Saturday with a 6-2 victory over Gresford in the Welsh Cup second round.

“Iwan has a great affinity with Llandudno Football Club, having played and captained the side in the past for many years; he has done an outstanding job in his first managerial appointment and turned Caernarfon Town FC into a title winning team, and probable promotion candidates. He now feels it is time to take the next step in his managerial career and that his old club Llandudno FC is an ideal fit for his ambitions, which following his interview clearly match our own”, a statement from Llandudno read.

Williams was appointed as Caernarfon manager in 2015 leading the Cofis to a league and league cup double during his first season. Williams also steered Caernarfon to their first Welsh Cup semi-final in twenty-nine years.

Llandudno chairman Russ Austin added: “As Chairman I am delighted to bring Iwan to the club, I have known and watched him for over 25 years in his development as a young player on Angelsey, his growth into senior football and his successful move into coaching and management, this is a very positive appointment for the club and I know Iwan will bring us continued success.

Williams’ decision to join Llandudno could also pave the way for Sean Eardley to return to Maesdu Park.

Eardley served as assistant manager to Alan Morgan before leaving Llandudno last summer to take on the same role at Caernarfon.

Llandudno are due to make a further announcement to confirm Iwan Williams’ management team. It is unclear whether interim manager Alex Gibson will remain with the club.
