Martyrs Battling For Southern League Play-Off Spot

Kings Langley 2, Merthyr Town 2

Merthyr Town have four fixtures left, two at home and two away, in their quest to qualify for the Southern League Premier Division highlights.

They returned home to South Wales having earned a solid point in Hertfordshire, but were bitterly disappointed not to win after leading twice.

Scott Barrow (54 mins) and Ian Traylor (78) scored for the Martyrs, while Lee Stobb (68) and Jack Pattison (91) replied for Kings Langley.

Rivals Banbury United won 1-0 at Hayes and Yeading and edged closer to fifth-placed Merthyr, who is in the last qualifying spot for the play-offs.

Merthyr are now only one point ahead of Banbury, although they also have a far superior goal difference.

There is only one automatic promotion place available, with Chippenham Town out in front now, and the next four teams will battle it out for a second spot in National League football.

Traylor made his 300th appearance for Merthyr Town, while Jarrad Wright was back after missing the five-goal home win against Cambridge City.

Wright replaced Curtis McDonald, who suffered a groin strain against Cambridge.

Keyon Reffell completed his three-game ban and he will be available to play against St Neots away next Saturday.

The next Merthyr Town fixture at their LoadLok Community Stadium will be against St. Ives Town on Saturday, April 15.

Merthyr Town: O Davies, S Barrow, J Wright, S Tancock, A Davies, A Evans, K Copp, E Richards, C Jenkins, J Bull, I Traylor. Subs: M Harris, J Bowen, R Prosser.
