Newtown Sharpshooter Oswell Named WPL Player Of The Season

Newtown’s Jason Oswell was named Dafabet Welsh Premier League Player of the Season at the league’s annual awards evening in Newport last night.

Oswell claimed the top award as the league celebrated its 25th annual dinner at the Coldra Court hotel with national team manager Chris Coleman, Kit Symons and Nigel Atkins in attendance.

The 24-year old striker fended off competition from The New Saints’ Jon Routledge and Bangor City’s Henry Jones to win the award and gave a pre-recorded acceptance speech from Uganda, where he is currently volunteering.

Oswell topped the league’s scoring charts with 22 goals this season to also receive the Golden Boot award.

Henry Jones was awarded the league’s Young Player of the Season after his impressive debut season.

Jones’ long-term future remains unclear however with the highly-rated midfielder yet to sign a new deal with Bangor amidst rumoured interest from Football League clubs.

The New Saints’ Craig Harrison collected the Manager of the Year award for a third successive season after narrowly missing out on an unprecedented ‘treble treble’.

In a record breaking season for Saints, Harrison steered his side to 27-match winning run as the club won the league championship at a canter. In January, TNS lifted the Nathaniel MG Cup before reaching the Irn-Bru Cup semi-final and the Welsh Cup final.
