Prestatyn Town’s survival hopes have been dealt a huge blow with the resignation of long-serving manager Neil Gibson.

Gibson leaves his role after 14 years with the club and he is now widely expected to join Connah’s Quay as assistant manager.

Gibson twice gained promotion into the WPL with Prestatyn but his biggest achievement was their shock Welsh Cup triumph in 2013.

A statement from Prestatyn read:

“It is with regret that the club must announce the resignation of Neil Gibson as First Team Manager & Head Of Academy with immediate effect. 
 
Neil has decided it is time to seek pastures new after 14 years of loyal & dedicated service at Bastion Gardens.
 
He has overseen the greatest moments in our history; gaining promotion to the Welsh Premier league in 2008, winning the the Welsh Cup in 2013 & guiding us through an unforgettable Europa League adventure. 
 
As a club , we wish him all the very best in his future career & place on record our sincerest thanks for the unstinting devotion he has given Prestatyn Town Football Club.”

There has been no comment from Connah’s Quay regarding Gibson possible role but it is believed he will work closely with Nomads manager Andy Morrison, with the pair having studied their UEFA Pro License together.

Prestatyn are currently 11th in the JD Welsh Premier League table and are on a run of eight straight league defeats. The Seasiders say that they will make a further announcement in due course.
