Rigg Ready To Boost Newport County After Agreeing Deal

Newport County have signed striker Sean Rigg on a two-year contract.

The 27-year-old, who can also play as a winger, has joined from AFC Wimbledon.

Rigg spent two seasons with the Dons helping them to promotion to League One last season after playing over 40 games.

He began his career at close rivals Bristol Rovers, before moving onto onto Port Vale and Oxford United.

“I’m delighted to have signed for Newport County AFC,” said Rigg, who was released by Wimbledon after the promotion via the play-offs.

“This time of year is obviously a stressful time for players and you want to get your future sorted as soon as possible, so I’m buzzing that a deal has been agreed and now I’m looking forward to the start of pre-season.”

Wotton-under-Edge born Rigg is keen to get back closer to his roots and admits he has been impressed by Exiles boss Warren Feeney.

He added: ”I took to Warren straight away and that was a big draw in me signing.

“I was looking to get back to the South-West area, so this move ticks all the boxes for me.

“Newport County AFC is a Club that is on the up, so it’s an exciting time to be joining the Club.”

Feeney reckons Rigg will be a big asset to the League Two club.

He said: “Sean has got the experience of promotion from this level, so that is obviously going to be a huge benefit to us.”

“I remember Sean from his time at Port Vale where he was used as a striker, but he also gives you an option out wide, which will help us tremendously.

“He has got the right mentality to succeed in this division and what I like most about him is that he is a very loyal character and I’m sure that he will be a very good addition for us.”
