Swansea Where The Heart Is For Britton As He Eyes Coaching Role

Leon Britton is eyeing a coaching role at Swansea City when his playing days are over.

The midfield stalwart has racked up over 500 appearances since he left West Ham United 14 years ago.

And as he prepares to face the Hammers in a crucial Boxing Day game, Britton admits he sees his future very much at the Liberty Stadium.

The 34-year-old told the Boxing Day edition of Jack magazine: “Whenever the time comes to finish playing, I would like to stay at the football club in some capacity.

“I am from London originally, but this is the place I call home now. I know a lot of people here, my kids were born here. My wife is from here.

“I am very settled and the club means a lot to me, so hopefully I can stay here when I finish.”

Britton’s playing days could carry on for some time yet after he recently signed a one year contract extension keeping him at the club until the summer of 2018.

The clash with his former club is a crunch one for the Swans after the successive defeats at West Brom and Middlesbrough left them 19th.

The Swans have won their last two home games and with Bournemouth to come on New Year’s Eve, manager Bob Bradley is looking for the Liberty Stadium to provide a boost to their survival hopes.

The American, 58, said: “The way the matches fall has a lot to do with trying to put a run together.

“We are pleased with the home form in the last two matches, especially against teams in our part of the table.

“Those were good results and we hope we can build on that. Like any team we understand the importance of playing well at home and in front of our supporters.

“When you play two away then two at home over the Christmas period you have to be really excited about using those matches to get something going.

“We need the atmosphere from the fans.

“Overall there is frustration among the fans and that’s fair enough.

“But when the game starts and I’m challenging every player to give everything if we can have the support inside the Liberty then that goes a long way.”
