Struggling Bala Town Seeking Thursday Night Boost Against Newtown

Colin Caton’s Bala Town travel to Newtown tonight in search of what would be just their third league win of the season (7.45).

The Lakesiders have struggled to live up to expectations so far this campaign and are currently on a six-game winless streak which has seen them slip down to 10th in the table.

A narrow defeat to Bangor City last weekend leaves Bala five points off the top-six with Colin Caton scratching his head at his side’s disappointing start.

Bala Town’s poor form this season has indeed been unexpected.

Caton is a veteran at Maes Tegid and one of Welsh domestic football’s biggest success stories, having steered the club up through the Welsh system to the heights of Europe, assembling one of top-flight’s strongest squads in the process.

Caton has adequate depth at his disposal as well as complete buy-in from his players on the back of his achievements at the club, with the highlight being a famous Welsh Cup triumph last season.

It surely is a case of when not if Bala Town turn around their poor form but they must improve at both ends of the field. The established defensive partnership of Stuart J. Jones and Stuart Jones need to rediscover their typical commanding form whilst up-front, summer signing Les Davies needs to start producing the goods for his new team, having not found the net so far in the WPL this season.

Newtown meanwhile are beginning to settle as Chris Hughes starts to find cohesion in a side which were forced into a summer rebuild. The Robins will not simply roll over and Bala Town will need to take a step closer towards last season’s form if they are to returning to winning ways.

Sgorio will be providing an online stream of the game on Facebook Live, which kicks off the 9th round of action in the JD Welsh Premier League.
