Wales U15s Recover To Run Ireland Close

Wales U15s completed their 3 game basketball series against the Ireland U15s over the Easter weekend at St Mary’s College, Galway, which resulted in a hat-trick of wins for the Irish.

The first two games saw Wales split their squad to ensure that all players had the opportunity to experience International basketball, with a number of players getting their first caps for their country.

The Irish team had a good balance of size, speed and skill which resulted in two big wins in the initial games 97-39 and 94-35.

However, the final game saw Wales select their strongest team and they certainly came out with a different mind-set, having learned from their previous heavy defeats.

It meant a fast and physical game from both teams. There was never much in the game, but Ireland eventually came out on top with a narrow 70-58 win.

The coaching staff were extremely pleased with the attitude and effort of all the players during the trip and it is hoped that the teams will get the opportunity to play each other again next year to prepare Wales for their U16 FIBA Division C European Championships.
