Evans Off To A Flyer On Rally Sweden

Elfyn Evans dominated the opening day of Rally Sweden to maintain his stunning start to the WRC2 season.

The Dolgellau-born flier won three of the six stages to spearhead a one-two-three for his M-Sport World Rally Team in his Ford Fiesta R5 Evo.

Evans followed up his victory in the season opening Monte Carlo Rally with another impressive display on an event usually dominated by Scandinavians.

And Evans, 27, said: “We’ve had a really good day. It’s tough out there and I think everyone has been pushing really hard – myself included!

“The times have been a little up and down in places and I felt that I had more to give on the second stage this morning.

“There was very changeable grip in there and it was difficult for me to read the road given my limited experience at this event, but it certainly got better after that.

“We’ve just been trying hard and really enjoying the driving.”

Evans has a new co-driver in Craig Parry this season as he focuses on the WRC2 category which is the support series to the World Rally Championship.

M-Sport Team Principal Malcolm Wilson said: “Elfyn has done another incredible job, which is all the more impressive when you consider that this is an event on which the local drivers have traditionally dominated.”
