Jayne Ludlow Plans Wales Shake-Up Ahead Of Qualifiers

Jayne Ludlow has promised Wales will show more changes ahead of a second friendly in Spain as preparations start for the UEFA Women’s Euro 2021 qualifying campaign.

The Wales manager saw her team play out a 0-0 draw with the Republic of Ireland in Marbella – the first of two fixtures against the Irish, with the second taking place on Tuesday.

Ludlow says she is using the games to experiment ahead of the qualifiers which begin in August.

“We are using this week for squad rotation and to allow the girls game time, so we are really pleased,” said Ludlow.

“We made six changes through the game, yet we created great chances. We need to take our chances when they come, but we created well today, the final decision just was not as good as we would have liked.”

Wales have been drawn alongside Northern Ireland, Norway, Belarus and the Faroe Islands in Group C of the qualifying campaign.

The finals are due to be played in England, with the exempt hosts joined by all nine of the qualifying group winners, the three best runners-up and three play-off winners. The six group runners-up who do not qualify automatically will enter the play-offs.

Fixture dates are still to be confirmed.
