Heavyweight Clubs Provide Big Start For Bluebirds Over First Two Months Back In Championship Football

Neil Warnock’s Bluebirds have been handed a tough start for their return to Championship football.

They start 2019-20 at Wigan Athletic and will then welcome newly-promoted Luton Town to Cardiff City Stadium a week later.

“The way the fixtures have fallen the first half of the season is the most difficult,” said Warnock. “If we can be up there or thereabouts around Christmas time it will give us a good chance.

“Our start could scarcely be more difficult at home with promoted Luton visiting us followed by Huddersfield and Fulham, who were relegated with us, and then another big team in Middlesbrough.

“They are tough fixtures. Every away game in the Championship is a challenge, too.

“We have to make sure we’re up and ready for when the kick-off comes.”

Neil Warnock headed up a Bluebirds visit to Ty Hafan at the end of last season.

Cardiff play their opening pre-season fixture against Welsh League Taffs Well on Friday, July 5 (7pm).

Proceeds from the match will go towards supporting Ty Hafan.

Having enjoyed successive matches with the Wellmen in our last two pre-season campaigns, a Cardiff City XI will visit Rhiw’r Ddar again with first team players in attendance.

“We went to Ty Hafan before the end of last season and all said that we’ve got to try and do some fundraising for them,” said Warnock.

“Taff’s Well have been so accommodating over the last few years, so we thought we’d do the same again and make a good contribution to the coffers.

“We’re delighted. Taff’s Well are a lovely, friendly club. The boys will be down there, some playing and some around the place and it will be a lovely night again.”

Cardiff are going to North America for their pre-season trip, while will complete their 2019-20 preparations with a home friendly against OGC Nice on Saturday, July 27 (3pm).

Bluebirds manager Neil Warnock.

Ligue 1 Nice side are led by former Arsenal and Manchester City midfield player Patrick Vieira and finished seventh in the French top-flight last season.

“We are delighted to get this friendly sorted for the final Saturday before the season begins,” said Warnock. “Nice are a big side and will pose a tough test for our squad.”

Warnock’s side have fixtures in the USA and Canada on their pre-season tour.
