The Martyrs used 21 players during their first pre-season fixture at the MetCoaches Stadium including manager Gavin Williams.

Kieran Lewis and Lee Lucas scored first half goals for the Martyrs, who were without new signing Ben Swallow.

Goalkeeping duties for Southern League Premier team Merthyr were shared between Cameron Clarke and Alex Harris.

Swansea’s team was coached by Cameron Toshack, a former Cardiff City and Swans’ player who is the son of ex-Wales manager John.

Cameron fielded a young team with 16 of their under-23 players involved on a first team training camp in Spain.

That left Toshack with nine under-23 outfield players and he called up a number of under-18 squad members.

Former Swansea winger Kerry Morgan led an early Merthyr attack and his fierce cross was turned away for a corner after two minutes.

The visitors had their first chance when Kieran Evans, whose 15th minute shot was saved by Clarke.

Morgan headed against a Swansea post from a Lewis Binns cross after 22 minutes before Lewis netted the first goal.

His composed finish just before the half hour came after Morgan’s pass set him free.

It was Lucas who added a second goal for the Martyrs just before half-time with a superb strike.

Merthyr made changes for the second half and sent on more substitutes midway through around the hour mark.

Liam Martin was in Merthyr’s starting line-up, went off at half-time and then returned when he replaced Craig McDonnell after 67 minutes.

Ian Traylor’s shot after 59 minutes was saved by Swans’ goalkeeper Josh Gould, while Ryan Prosser went close from a Traylor cross.
