Cory McKenna has revealed she suffered a torn ligament and broken right ankle in his historic UFC debut victory in Las Vegas.

The 21-year-old from Cwmbran beat American Kay Hansen when she became the first Welsh woman to fight in the premier series.

But McKenna’s hopes of a quick return to the ring look to have been dashed after the results of the MRI scans.

“I completely tore a ligament and fractured my ankle when I rolled it going into the third round of that fight,” said McKenna on twitter.

“Looks like I’ll be forced to take a break but can’t wait to get this cleared up and jump back in there!

McKenna, nicknamed Poppins, said after her unanimous victory over the California that she had hurt her ankle.

But, unfortunately, the injury is worse than McKenna – who has been training at the Team Alpha Male gym in Sacramento, California – first feared.

McKenna, though, made a huge statement with her victory over the highly-rated Hansen and knows she will improve even more over the coming years.
