Saints’ Teenager Christian Fires Welsh Uefa Winner

Wales powered to victory against Sweden in their Uefa under-19 Championship qualifying match at Nantporth, Bangor.

The Welsh boys produced an outstanding team performance and earned their win against the group’s top seeds.

Bury’s Joe Adams and substitute Christian Norton, who plays at the Southampton Academy, scored the goals for manager Paul Bodin’s Wales team and they complete their Uefa fixtures against San Marino at Bangor City on Tuesday.

A win against San Marino, who have lost both of their group fixtures including a 5-0 defeat against Scotland this afternoon, would put coach Paul Bodin’s Wales through to the elite round of the championships.

Joe Adams fired Wales ahead after 13 minutes, while Ben Kimpioka equalised just after the half hour.

Southampton FC’s Norton, aged 17, then netted the Welsh winner after 63 minutes.

The young Dragons pressed forward for long periods and almost scored when a Morgan Boyes shot hit a post.

Sweden did force the ball home, but the effort was disallowed because the ball had run out of play before it was crossed for Vagic to shoot home.

Goalkeeper Paul Brolin saved the Swedes with a huge save from North when he broke free and Wales emerged winners.
