Gerwyn Price Slips To World No 3 As Jonny Clayton Left Counting Cost

Gerwyn Price has slipped one place to No 3 in the world after seeing Peter Wright crowned European Champ.

The 35-year-old was beaten by the reigning world champ in the second round then saw his rival scoop the £120,000 first prize.

Wright beat Jonny Clayton in the semi-final in Germany after the Pontyberem thrower’s miscalculation.

Jonny Clayton had chance to level at 9-9 in his semi-final with Peter Wright but miscalculated.

Price is third with prize money of £897,500 in the PDC Order of Merit which is calculated over a rolling two-year period in ranking events.

Michael van Gerwen is still top (£1,438,750) with Scots-born Wright back in second on £984,000.

Clayton was left ruing miscounting on a 111 finish to level his semi in leg 18 on Sunday before Wright completed an 11-8 win.

Wright then beat James wade 11-4 in the final in Oberhausen to win his first Unibet European Championship title.

Clayton’s reward for reaching the semis at the event for the first time – and pocketing £32,000 – is a move into 16th spot (£263,25) in the Order of Merit.

And Clayton and Price will team-up this weekend for Wales at the World Cup in Austria.

The duo, seeded second,  start their campaign on Friday against Russia at the Salzburgarena in what will now be a behind-closed-doors event.
